The center provides comprehensive care for adults with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn鈥檚 disease and ulcerative colitis. His work and dedication to the field recently earned him the 2024 Sherman Emerging Leader Prize.

Among Dr. Dietz鈥檚 specialties is continent ileostomy surgery鈥攁lso known as K-pouch surgery鈥攁 technically complex operation performed by only a few surgeons nationwide. This procedure creates an internal pouch, allowing patients to avoid an external appliance by using a soft catheter to empty the pouch as needed. The stoma, or external opening, can be covered with a bandage when not in use. Dr. Dietz also specializes in redo ileal pouch鈥揳nal anastomosis, or J-pouch surgery, and other advanced procedures designed to preserve bowel function and avoid conventional colostomies or ileostomies.
